Project Description

A circus ring leader, driven to madness by grief and greed, brings the ensemble of performers to a miserable end.

The Devil’s Apple is a Chicago-based drama feature that embraces a tactile, analog aesthetic through a full photochemical workflow. Shot on 35mm using the Panavision Millennium XL2 and Arriflex 435 Xtreme, Director of Photography Gabriel Jung crafts a richly textured visual language that mirrors the psychological decay of a grief-stricken circus ring leader. Utilizing Panavision T-Series and G-Series anamorphic lenses alongside Kowa anamorphics, the film leans into organic aberrations, elliptical bokeh, and edge distortion—qualities often sought after in modern cinematography for emotional depth.

Directed by Tiana Lucaccioni and Ali Mango under Acheron Productions, the lighting design—executed with Gaffer Alhareth Ajjaj and Key Grip Alex Halsted—embraces motivated candlelight, warm practicals, and low-key contrast ratios to achieve a painterly, chiaroscuro look. The result is a visually immersive narrative that balances classical composition with expressive imperfections inherent to shooting on film.
